It’s a rare treat to find a novel that makes you laugh out loud and Susan Coll’s Beach Week is wonderfully funny from the very beginning making it a great summer book. Yet underneath the humor, you’ll find a captivating story along with a set of characters who will touch your heart. The misadventures of parents dealing with children before they leave for college are hilarious. The behavior of the high school seniors is equally outlandish, and if you’ve already survived raising high schoolers, you’ll breath a sigh of relief. If you are still facing this stage of parenting, you might brace yourself for the ride! All in all, a truly entertaining book that will keep you thinking long after you’ve read the last page.
I teach high school with seniors and am an adjunct college instructor. You are so right
I can also remember the concern when my son went on his beach week and the next year my daughter and that was eight hours from home. this too shall pass. They have grown into lovely adults.
I bought BEACH WEEK a few weeks ago but have not read it yet. Katharine, I have a feeling you’re a fast reader…I know that Brenda is…I am a slow reader (on purpose!) so many weeks I’ll still be reading the same book…however, I visit my favorite bookstore every Wed where I purchase new novels and I’ll comment regularly on whats new…this week I was so excited to buy Elin Hilderbrand’s new Nantucket novel THE ISLAND…I’ve read all her books and love them dearly…I’m currently reading BEACHCOMBERS by Nancy Thayer, another Nantucket resident.
Just ordered it
Brenda, based on your recommendation I bought THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US and just ordered WHERE THE RIVER ENDS, both by Charles Martin.
I’m not a fast reader but I try to read at least a book a week, but some weeks it’s easier than others. Thank you for the Nantucket author suggestions. I visited Nantucket only once, but I just loved it-and what a beautiful place to write!
Katharine, it was after I read Elin Hilderbrand’s novel called THE BLUE BISTRO that I knew I had to visit Nantucket…and that’s exactly what I did…I love all her books but THE BLUE BISTRO is exceptional. (-O:
Read it at the beach…a fun read
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
